What is a compliance calendar?
Also called: compliance schedule, regulatory calendar
Last updated
A compliance calendar is a schedule of every recurring obligation an organisation must meet, such as regulatory filings, licence renewals, policy reviews, audits, training and certificate expiries. Each entry has a due date, an owner and the steps to complete it, so that deadlines are met and there is a record that they were.
In more detail
Obligations come from many places: company law, tax, data protection, health and safety, industry regulators, insurers, customers’ contracts and the organisation’s own certifications. Kept in different people’s heads and diaries, something is eventually missed, often with a fine or a lapsed licence as the result.
A calendar is only the start. Each entry needs enough lead time before its deadline, a named owner, the steps to complete it and a way to see what is coming up and what is overdue.
Example
A UK company’s compliance calendar includes the annual confirmation statement, the VAT returns each quarter, the yearly fire risk assessment review, the data protection fee renewal, the cyber insurance renewal and the annual policy review, each with an owner and a reminder a month before.
Compliance calendars in CheckFlow
In CheckFlow each obligation can be a schedule that starts its checklist with enough lead time, monthly, quarterly, yearly or on fixed points such as the last weekday of the quarter. Each checklist arrives assigned with its due date, overdue alerts go to the owner, and the Reports Grid shows everything open.
